Books update ....

Today, I read "The Journey - Stories of Migration" by Cynthia Rylant to my daughter.

It looks like a very informative book for Grade 3-5 students. The illustrations are good.
We learnt the migrations of ...

1. The locust - This was new to me. It is interesting to know these grasshoppers.

2. The whales - They do not have teeth, they have baleen, instead - which are like finger nails. They store their fat in blubbers to use them when they do not eat for about 8 months.

3. The eels - This was new to me and very interesting - This fish lives in both fresh water and salt water . Sargasso Sea is where they are born and the larvae migrate, turn to eels on the coasts, the female eels leaves males in the sea and moves inland. They live in fresh water for a long time. Then they return to the sea, meet their left behind male eels and return together to Sargasso Sea.

4. The Monarch Butterfly - I want to see Monarchs.

5. The Caribou (New to me) - My daughter said that Caribou looks like a reindeer.

6. The Arctic terns ( I knew this in 6th grade and the amazing 25000 miles trip)
